Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pocatello ID
115 PM MST Mon Jan 27 2025
.SHORT TERM...Tonight and Tuesday. High pressure building will
keep us dry with stronger inversions through the end of the week.
We continue to finagle with the Blend of Model temperatures,
especially in valleys where the inversion is stronger. The trends
in the Blend are correct for areas that are NOT influenced by the
inversion. That means lows in the 10s and 20s, and highs into the
30s if not pushing 40. Where the inversion holds, lows will be in
the single digits to teens below zero...and highs in the 10s and
20s if that warm. We MAY see a few pockets of stratus and/or
freezing fog...but again nothing widespread is reflected in the
forecast. Some of it is too small-scale to even try and model in
the forecast. Keyes
.LONG TERM...Wednesday through Monday. Upper ridge remains in place
through Thursday, with dry conditions and slowly moderating
temperatures. By the end of the week, pattern begins changing with
stronger zonal flow with deeper atmospheric river moisture working
into the region. Ensemble clusters are showing some differences in
strength of the shortwave trough driving through Idaho Friday,
followed by some differences in whether or not a ridge tries to
redevelop Saturday into Sunday across the Great Basin, though that
particular solution is only a very small subset of the ensembles.
While the details remain a little fuzzy, we are gaining some
confidence in seeing widespread precipitation. Temperatures look
warm enough to support at least daytime rain at lower elevations,
with temperatures around or above normal. The models have been
fluctuating somewhat on timing and where the deepest moisture looks
to set up, so expect some fluctuation in the forecast through the
week. DMH

.AVIATION...VFR conditions and light winds are forecast through
Tuesday. DMH
&&
.PIH WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
None.
